Child Sponsorship FAQ:
How do I sponsor a child?
A child sponsorship is a donation of $350 or more per year. TeacHaiti matches you with a student or students depending on the number of the students you wish to sponsor You will receive a card or a letter from the child you sponsor in December and again in the spring.
Is there a deadline to receive scholarship money?
Yes, there is, it is July 10th.
The TeacHaiti board of directors has set a deadline of July 10th of every year to receive scholarship money, so that we can better plan for the school year. Each spring you will receive a card in the mail to remind you of the deadline. Every summer I go to the states (primarily Minnesota) to update all the sponsors on the progress of TeacHaiti. You will receive an invitation from the TeacHaiti board informing you of my arrival and the TeacHaiti Annual Fundraiser. The fundraiser is a great time for me to visit with you and answer any questions you may have about TeacHaiti and/or Haiti in general.
What is a normal school year?
Schools start the first week of September and goes through the end of June.
May I sponsor the same child the following year if I want to?
Yes, you can. We keep our sponsors with their same students for as long as the sponsors are able to support their particular child’s education and as long as the child maintains a B average.
Once students reach middle school, TeacHaiti requires that its students maintain a B average to continue in the program. If a student does not maintain that average he or she will no longer be part of the program. His/her place will be given to another student. You, the sponsor, would be notified of the change and a new student would be assigned to you. We do our best to help our students succeed. They are provided with everything they need for school, including their books. We meet with them periodically to check on their academic pro-gress. If a child is falling behind, we find tutors to help them. We do everything we can to help the children succeed.
May I write to my sponsored child?
Yes, you may. You may write to your child and send the letter to my address in Fort Pierce, Florida. Please keep in mind that everything over one pound will cost me $1.50. Anything less than one pound is free of charge.
